Ponta Delgada
In March 2010 Sérvulo opened an office in Ponta Delgada, thereby extending its base to the Azores. The circumstances which led to Sérvulo creating a permanent base in the Azores originated more from the archipelago itself than from the firm’s own agenda. Indeed, in parallel to the fact that several of Sérvulo’s partners and associates have strong connections to the islands, for more than a decade the firm has been receiving an increasing number of requests for legal services from a wide selection of entities, both public and private, regional and local, all belonging to the Autonomous Region. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that interlocutors in the main cities of Ponta Delgada, Angra and Horta would repeatedly comment that, since we had attained a considerable level of legal work originating from the Azores, we owed the Autonomous Region a permanent base that would facilitate a closer dialogue and therefore one which was better informed of the contextual issues, as well as a structure that locally retained part of the revenues gained from the firm’s professional activity on the islands. These were the circumstances that, starting already in 2008, led us to decide to create a base in the Azores, even though its realisation had to wait until we had the opportunity to attract Azorean lawyers to the project, who, once fully integrated into the already existing body of lawyers at Sérvulo and into the firm’s overall internal culture, could form the initial nucleus of the Ponta Delgada office, which would operate in a seamless network with the Lisbon office. Sérvulo intends to, gradually and with time, recruit an increasing number of locally-based lawyers, thereby offering a career in a national law firm that is dedicated to providing legal services of the highest excellence.
