Sérvulo promotes five new partners

At its last general meeting, SÉRVULO promoted four partners to senior partners, and nominated a new partner. João Saúde (Litigation ad Arbitration, Restructuring and Insolvency), Mark Kirkby (in the area of Public Law and Projects), Miguel Gorjão-Henriques (European Law and Competition Law) and Sofia Carreiro (Corporate, Commercial and M&A) are the four new senior partners. In his turn, Diogo Feio, head of the Tax department, who was, until now, Of Counsel at the firm, was the latest lawyer to be made partner at the firm led by Paulo Câmara.

Paulo Câmara, Managing Partner of SÉRVULO, refers that the promotion of the five partners is an important sign of the vitality and development of the firm, and constitutes a natural progression in the recognition of the careers of those involved as lawyers and team leaders. He also stressed that the aim of these promotions is to match the growth in terms of turnover, and consequently, in what regards human resources in the areas concerned.

 

The partners who have been promoted

With eighteen years’ experience as a lawyer before national and international courts, João Saúde is an Arbitrator of the Commercial Arbitration Centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and of the Mediation and Arbitration Centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Brazil. He has represented clients in some of the most complex commercial disputes in Portugal, with a special focus on the areas of banking, construction and public works, international contracts and insolvencies. Currently he is SÉRVULO’s link to the Chinese market.

Also with eighteen years’ experience as a lawyer in the areas of Public Law and Projects, Mark Kirkby assists clients in launching or renegotiating concession contracts, namely in the areas of road and rail public-private partnerships, also advising clients in the public sector on preparing and monitoring pre-contractual public law procedures, and private clients in presenting tender proposals for these very same procedures. He also has an intense activity in the area of administrative litigation and arbitration, especially in disputes concerning public contracts and public procurement.

Miguel Gorjão-Henriques has been a lawyer for seventeen years in the area of European Law and Competition and Distribution Law. He is also a specialist in Health and Pharmaceutical Law. With experience in Arbitration, he is President of the Portuguese Competition Commission of the ICC - International Chamber of Commerce, founder of the Portuguese Circle of Lawyers Specialized in Competition Law (CAPDC - Círculo dos Advogados Portugueses de Direito da Concorrência), and member of the Board of the Portuguese Association of European Law (APDE - Associação Portuguesa de Direito Europeu). He has been a university lecturer since 1992, and he is currently concluding his PhD at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.

Sofia Carreiro has a broad professional experience, having dedicated the last seventeen years to advising clients in a variety of business sectors, the most relevant ones being energy and pharmaceutical, with a special focus on M&A operations, joint ventures, and acquisitions, with an international component. She has particular expertise in mergers and in restructuring operations, and she advises some of the most notable Portuguese companies and international companies operating in Portugal. She also has an intense activity in the negotiation and execution of complex commercial contracts or those involving multiple jurisdictions.

Finally, Diogo Feio is one of SÉRVULO’s most recent partners, having recently concluded his PhD at the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto, and he has focused his legal practice on tax litigation and arbitration, as well as advising on the tax side of real estate, investment and corporate restructuring operations. His experience includes giving assistance on tax matters to companies operating in a variety of sectors, including banking and financial, manufacturing, energy transportation and distribution, operations in Angola and Mozambique, and to non-habitual residents.
