English version of book on copyright law in the digital age widens debate on the subject

NEWS AND EVENTS 26 Aug 2016

The Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA – Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores) took the initiative to translate into English the book "Direito de Autor - Que Futuro na Era Digital?" (“Copyright Law: what future in the digital age?”), co-published by Guerra e Paz and the SPA. The book brings together a collection of 15 testimonies by the most preeminent legal specialists of the area in Portugal, including Patrícia Akester, Of Counsel at SÉRVULO in the department of Intellectual Property, Data Protection and IT.

This diversified, rigorous and deep analysis of a complex theme that is constantly changing is introduced by Gadi Oron, director-general of CISAC - International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies, based in Paris, and José Jorge Letria, president of the SPA and of the European Committee of Societies of Authors of CISAC.

This English translation will allow for the book to reach dozens of fellow societies of authors, as well as superstructures such as CISAC, the European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers (GESAC), based in Brussels, as well as the European Commission, also in Brussels, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), based in Geneva. Next year the book will be distributed to the over 300 participants of CISAC’s general assembly, which takes place in Lisbon on June 8.

The opinions of Portuguese specialists in this area will, therefore, have an international impact that is both uncommon and notable.
