Teresa Serra participates in conference on Istanbul Convention

The Portuguese Association of Women Lawyers (Associação Portuguesa das Mulheres Juristas) has co-organised, with the Faculty of Law of the NOVA University of Lisbon the International Conference on “The Istanbul Convention and Sex Crimes.” Teresa Serra, Of Counsel at SÉRVULO and guest lecturer at the above Faculty, will be one of the speakers at the event, which takes place on November 27 and 28 at the NOVA University of Lisbon, with the aim of debating the legislative implications, with regards to sex crimes, of the entry into force of the Istanbul Convention.

It should be noted that Portugal was the first EU member state to ratify the Istanbul Convention, an international legal instrument that is binding on signatory countries to establish a legal framework that protects women against all forms of violence and that works towards preventing and eliminating domestic violence. This legislation recently entered into force in fourteen countries, namely Albania, Andorra, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden and Turkey and will eventually cover twenty-two other countries in the process of ratifying it.
