Service Nationality

Portugal has witnessed a significant and consistent rise in the number of foreign citizens whom are applying for Portuguese nationality, either because they are descendants of original Portuguese citizens, or because they are benefiting from Portugal’s residency authorization program for investors. A new legal framework has been put in place which effectively widens the avenues of acquiring Portuguese nationality, not only by simplifying the actual process, but also by qualifying more individuals as eligible to acquire Portuguese nationality.

The frequently used “Golden Visa” program allows foreign citizens whom invest in Portugal to receive a valid residence permit from the Portuguese State, which after 5 years of actively investing in the country enables them to apply for Portuguese nationality (previously 6 years).

As an example, it is also worth highlighting the recent amendment to Portuguese nationality law which extends the possibility of acquiring Portuguese nationality to foreign citizens whom are grandchildren of original Portuguese citizens.

In this context, SÉRVULO advises its clients in obtaining visas and residence permits in Portugal, alongside acquiring Portuguese nationality. SÉRVULO also provides tailored and continuous assistance throughout the entire Golden Visa process, which commences with an initial residence permit for investment, followed by a series of renewals, and concludes with the final step of acquiring Portuguese nationality.
