Governance Lab publishes book on Governance of Public Administration

Governance of Public Administration, the most recent Governance Lab publication, is launched on May 21.

The book aims to offer some legal analyses of certain sectors of the Portuguese Public Administration from the perspective of State reform with a view to creating a more democratic and efficient system. The authors focus on specific sectors, namely management of EU funds, schools, universities, hospitals, ports, airports, regulation and supervisory activities, analyzing their workings in terms of governance, especially in what concerns the separation between government and administration, liability before third-party audit bodies, openness to participation, accountability mechanisms, transparency, conflict of interest, influence peddling and institutions’ internal governance systems.

The publication includes articles by a number of leading Portuguese jurists, including Sérvulo associados Rui Cardona Ferreira and Vasco Freitas da Costa.

Governance Lab is an autonomous and non-profit organization dedicated to legal research and critical reflection on matters related to governance of organizations, be they public or private, trying, in this way, to actively contribute to the development of related practices, recommendations legislation in Portugal. The group is currently made up of 38 individual members from various strands of the Portuguese legal panorama, thereby allowing to combine practical experience with academic analysis.
