Sérvulo & Associados and Nuno Teixeira Advogados (Madeira) hosted an international conference on September 22, 2022, in Funchal, to debate the challenges and prospects for foreign direct investment, from an outermost region in the current geopolitical context.

The Conference "The Future of Foreign Direct Investment", which took place within the scope of the 3rd Annual Meeting of the international network SÉRVULO LATITUDE⦵, brought together several representatives of government entities and the business community of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, to discuss the attraction of foreign investment in times of uncertainty and the benefits and characteristics of Low Taxation Zones.

How to create a regulatory framework capable of attracting foreign financial services companies? Can a special taxation zone change the economic development profile of an outermost region? These are some of the questions analysed by a group of specialists.

The panel of speakers included Pedro Reis, former President of AICEP, Hermenegildo Altozano, Partner of Bird & Bird, Rogério Gouveia, Regional Secretary of Finance (Madeira), Duarte Freitas, Regional Secretary of Finance (Azores), Jorge Veiga França, President of the Board of Directors of ACIF-CCIM, Rui Barreto, Regional Secretary of Economy (Madeira), Paulo Pereira, President of the Regional Delegation of Madeira of the Order of Economists, João Machado, Vice-President of the Board of Directors of SDM, among others.

The event was opened by the Mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado, and by the Managing Partner of Sérvulo & Associados, Manuel Magalhães. It was closed by José Manuel Rodrigues, President of the Regional Legislative Assembly of Madeira.
