Miguel Gorjão-Henriques participates in seminar organized by DECO and ASJP

NEWS AND EVENTS 14 Mar 2012

The Portuguese Association for Consumer Rights (DECO) and the Union Association of Portuguese Judges (ASJP - Associação Sindical dos Juízes Portugueses) holds on March 16 and 17 in Sesimbra, and on April 20 and 21, in Viseu, the seminar “European Competition Law: the Market and Consumers”, which includes the participation of Miguel Gorjão-Henriques, SÉRVULO partner. Competition advocacy is the main topic addressed by this specialist in European and Competition Law.

The initiative, designed exclusively for judges, aims, firstly, to inform about the importance of the application of competition law at the national level as a factor for competitiveness and for the development of national economy. And, secondly, to stimulate debate on competition, particularly with regard to the strategic challenges that it faces under the current economic crisis and to safeguard the rights and interests of consumers. The timeliness of the debate is further increased by the fact that at this time the Portuguese Parliament is discussing the new competition law that, according to Miguel Gorjão-Henriques, strengthens the powers of the Competition Authority and significantly reduces the rights of companies, which is an affront to the structuring constitutional values of the Portuguese legal system.
