Miguel Gorjão-Henriques coordinates colloquium on new Competition regime

NEWS AND EVENTS 13 Nov 2012

Miguel Gorjão-Henriques, partner at SÉRVULO and head of the firm’s European and Competition department, is the coordinator of the Colloquium “The new Competition Law and its Implications” on the new Portuguese legal framework for Competition resulting from Law n. 19/2012, of May 8, which entered into force last July 7.

The Colloquium will take place on November 23 from 8:30am at the headquarters of the ICC Competition Commission – Portugal, located in the building of the Lisbon Commercial Association. The event is jointly organized by the Competition Commission of the ICC – Portugal, by CEDIPRE – Centre for the Study of Public Law and Regulation of the Law Faculty of the University of Coimbra, and by the Circle of Portuguese Competition Law Lawyers (CAPDC - Círculo dos Advogados Portugueses de Direito da Concorrência).

This is perhaps the first major public debate session concerning the new legal framework for Competition, with the participation of leading academic and professional experts involved in the implementation of this new legal framework. “It will be a unique opportunity for a transparent discussion on issues of major importance for the life of enterprises and of the national economy itself, especially considering the difficult context,” says Miguel Gorjão-Henriques. The diversity and excellence of the speakers will provide various perspectives on how the law will be addressed in practice by the Competition Authority and by the new Court for Competition, Regulation and Supervision, “but also by company governance policies and by the type of litigation that the statue may yield, given the solutions it proposes.”

About the event, Miguel Gorjão-Henriques points out that “this is a unique opportunity to discuss the innovations, hopes and difficulties that the new legal framework for Competition raises, in terms of sanctioning or supervisory procedures, mergers, new appeals procedures, as well as the alleged introduction of a discretionary principle”.

Information about the conference and registration must be made via the CEDIPRE, by e-mail (cedipre@fd.uc.pt) or phone (+351 239 836 309).
