Sérvulo has a new senior partner and team specialised in banking and insurance law

NEWS AND EVENTS 22 Jun 2011

Manuel Magalhães joins SÉRVULO as a Senior Partner, becoming, together with Paulo Câmara, co-head of the Financial & Governance department. Manuel Magalhães brings with him a team of six associates. The group joins SÉRVULO from the Lisbon office of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira.

The six associates specialised in banking and insurance are Verónica Fernández, José Miguens Mendes, Sofia Thibaut Trocado, Joana Pinto Monteiro, Mariana Duarte Silva and Francisco Salavessa, and they will strengthen the department that was created three years ago by Paulo Câmara.

On this new development, SÉRVULO managing partner Pedro Furtado Martins comments that this is another move in the firm’s strategy, started in 2008, to increasingly affirm itself in the areas of practice related to private law.

Manuel Magalhães adds that the integration of his team into Sérvulo “offers clients a unique synergy in transactional and regulatory work, one which will allow us to ensure higher responsiveness in all Finance and Corporate Governance areas, in particular Banking, Capital Markets and Insurance”.

To this Paulo Câmara adds that this is a joining up of clearly complementary forces: the two parts that now form the whole that is the Financial & Governance department at SÉRVULO, now with 9 members, align perfectly with one another and with the quality and rigor that are two of the firm’s trademarks.

A lawyer specialised in Banking, Insurance and Tourism Law, Manuel Magalhães was formerly a senior partner at Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira & Associados, having initially worked in the Porto office. He later established and developed the firm’s Mozambique office, and most recently created and led the banking and insurance department in Lisbon. Nominated in banking and finance by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, the latest quoted “praised for his depth of analysis, thoroughness, diligence and consistency, Manuel Magalhães is a very special breed of lawyer and one of the best in Portugal”.
