Revisiting the Liberal Constitutional Features of the European Union

BOOKS AND ACADEMIC ARTICLES 2025 APDE and Springer

SÉRVULO is proud to announce the publication of the book Revisiting the Liberal Constitutional Features of the European Union, edited by APDE and Springer and co-coordenated by Inês Quadros and Miguel Gorjão-Henriques, respectively, consultant and partner at the European & Competition department. In addition to serving as editors, they have also contributed two original articles to the volume.

This scholarly work brings together a distinguished group of Portuguese academics specialising in European Union Law. It offers a fresh and critical perspective on the constitutional foundations of the EU, revisiting the liberal democratic principles that underpin the European way of life and addressing the contemporary challenges facing the Union.

The book explores key themes such as the rule of law crisis, judicial independence, and the autonomy of EU law, making it a valuable resource for researchers and legal practitioners alike.

The contributions by SÉRVULO’s lawyers include:

  • A “Principle of Exclusive Competence of the Court for the Definitive Interpretation of EU Law”? Is There Anybody in There? I’ll Need Some Information, First! by Miguel Gorjão-Henriques
  • The Court of Justice of the EU and the Independence of the Judiciary by Inês Quadros

The book is available through Springer.
